A Trip to Best Ballpark in America: Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Took a trip up to Charm City recently to see the Orioles. It had been years since my last visit to Oriole Park at Camden Yards and all the great memories came back to me as I walked up to the Eutaw Street entrance and looked up at the magnificent B&O Warehouse.

I was reminded why I consider Camden Yards to be the best ballpark in Major League Baseball. It is a pleasure watching a game in Baltimore.

Also, walking around the area you realize how walkable and transit friendly it all is. There was a college lacrosse tournament final at M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Ravens NFL franchise, and that stadium is a short walk from Camden Yards. And there is a light rail trolley line that stops right outside of the ballpark.
After the game we walked the short distance to the Inner Harbor for gelato and enjoyed the people watching and activities at one of the best harbors in America.

There is just so much to do around Camden Yards before and after the game with great bars and restaurants and shopping and outdoor activities for the family. Just a world-class experience all around.

Hopefully the Navy Yard/Southwest Waterfront area around Nationals Park will one day offer everything that Charm City does for baseball fans. My last trip to Nats Park I saw some encouraging signs with new residential buildings and construction taking place so progress is definitely being made.

The only down side to the game was that the O's were playing the Cleveland Indians and while I would say a lot of fans were wearing the retro C logo hat, a lot were proudly displaying the Chief Wahoo -- the most racist caricature in sports. Period. The Indians are supposedly starting to phase out Chief Wahoo and it can't happen fast enough. Wahoo belongs in the dustbin of history along with other racist caricatures that we did away with a long time ago. It is un-American to degrade an entire group of people with racist sports mascots.

Here are more pictures from Camden Yards and pictures of a recent visit to Nationals Park, including some of the development going on around the stadium:
